Robin Hood and The Sheriff
The story of Robin Hood has been told for more than six hundred years. The legendary tale is set in Sherwood Forest, England, and portrays Robin as a fearless outlaw who led his band of merry men against the tyranny of the Sheriff of Nottingham.
The coin’s reverse design depicts a representation of Robin Hood holding a bow and arrow. The Sheriff of Nottingham is featured with a hunting kestrel against a coloured background of Sherwood Forest. The design also includes the inscription ROBIN HOOD & THE SHERIFF.
Holmes and Moriarty
Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character created by author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The author’s first story featuring Sherlock Holmes was A Study in Scarlet published in Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887.
Holmes is a detective with acute powers of observation and reasoning, forensic expertise and an ability to take on any disguise. Holmes is assisted in his investigations by his loyal companion, Dr Watson.
The coin’s reverse design depicts a representation of Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty, set against a coloured background of the Reichenbach Falls. The design also includes the inscription HOLMES & MORIARTY.
Van Helsing and Dracula
Irish author Abraham ‘Bram’ Stoker published his novel Dracula in 1897. The fictional story begins with the character Jonathon Harker, a newly qualified English solicitor, journeying from England to Count Dracula's remote castle in the Carpathian Mountains, Romania.
The coin’s reverse design depicts a representation of Dracula and Van Helsing, against the coloured nightscape of the Carpathian Mountains and Dracula’s castle. The design also includes the inscription VAN HELSING & DRACULA.
Peter Pan and Hook
Peter Pan is a fictional character created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie. The character's best-known adventure debuted on 27 December 1904; in the stage play Peter Pan or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. The play was adapted as a novel and published in 1911.
The coin’s reverse design depicts a representation of Peter Pan and Captain Hook. The coloured background features the Jolly Roger pirate ship and an artistic interpretation of Neverland. The design also includes the inscription PETER PAN & HOOK.
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
The fictional story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was first published as a novella written by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886. The tale features a London lawyer named Gabriel Utterson who investigates the strange activities of his long-time friend, Dr Henry Jekyll.
The coin’s reverse design depicts a representation of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde against a coloured background of the streets of London. The design also includes the inscription DR JEKYLL & MR HYDE.
Tuvalu Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, each coin’s obverse depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2011 year-date and the monetary denomination.
