History of players cigarette cards

In 1877 John Player bought William Wright's tobacco business and naming it John Player & Sons. Player's were one of the first UK tobacco companies to include sets of general interest cards in their packs of cigarettes. These cards were generally produced in sets of 25 to 50 and have since become highly collectable.

Why cards were discontinued.

They were discontinued to save paper during World War II, and never fully reintroduced thereafter.
