Chinese culture is steeped in ancient lucky symbols. This stunning coin, which portrays several symbols of fortune and wealth, also reflects the auspiciousness of the number eight in traditional beliefs. Proof Quality 99.99% Pure Gold The 2008 coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 8.88g of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality. Octagonal Shape The unusually-shaped coin has eight sides. Spectacular Reverse Design The centre of the coin’s reverse portrays a stylised combination of Chinese characters with the literal meaning ‘bringing money and treasures’. A peony, the ‘flower of riches’, appears in colour at the top of the design, while eight yuan bao, small ingots used in ancient China as money, are shown below. Behind these design elements is a string of eight lucky coins. Long ago, their circular shape was said to represent Heaven, while their square hole symbolised Earth. Tuvalu Legal Tender Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coin depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination of $28 on the obverse. Presentation Packaging The coin is housed in a presentation display case featuring a granite-effect base and glossy timber lid. The case comes in an attractive, illustrated shipper with gold foiling.
Strict Limited Mintage The Perth Mint will release no more that 2,008 of these ‘lucky’ coins. Numbered Certificate of Authenticity Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Technical Specifications
